There’s always lots of cleaning and feeding to do, and donations to sort. With supervision you’ll learn to health check and socialise all manner of reptiles from tortoises, turtles, small and large lizards and snakes of all sizes and species; as well as invertebrates and invertebrates when we have them.
You’ll also get the opportunity to learn maintenance and other vital skills while you’re with us.
Away from the rescue premises, you’ll also get the opportunity to take part in our fundraising activities, and the chance to help organise events if you wish.
We have a great team of current volunteers and a thriving community willing to help you learn and grow, whether it be with your own animals, at the rescue, or elsewhere.
"Working at NI Exotic Sanctuary is both rewarding and hands on, and everyone has a strong commitment to animal welfare and rehabilitation. From the moment I joined, I have received nothing but respect and friendliness; and for anyone considering volunteering at NIES my answer will always be a big yes"- MD
“Being a volunteer at NI Exotic Sanctuary is a really rewarding experience. It allows me to work in my field in my free time and helps me better understand the reptiles I work with. I do not have any pet reptiles but the experience is brilliant for when I eventually begin caring for one. I'm really passionate about the work and while there are days where it might be hard work, seeing the residents improve and get adopted after the work put into their care and recovery really brightens up your week!”-RMcA
“At NI Exotic Sanctuary, I’ve been able to apply my ecology degree to real-world reptile care and behaviour. Being part of a team that rehabilitates and prepares animals for their forever homes has been incredibly rewarding, strengthening my career development while helping give these animals the second chance they deserve”- MM
